FAQ
What is a healthy BMI?
For most adults a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal weight. Under 18.5 is underweight, 25-29.9 overweight, and 30+ obese. BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.
Does BMI work for athletes or muscular people?
Not perfectly. Muscle weighs more than fat, so very muscular people can show a high BMI without excess body fat. Waist measurement and body-fat % give extra context.
Why do you show a healthy-weight range?
BMI alone hides a lot. We also show the weight range that keeps you in the normal band for your height, which is usually more actionable.
Is BMI different for children?
Yes. Children's BMI is interpreted with age- and sex-specific growth charts. This calculator is for adults (20+).
